STATEMENTS OF HERITAGE IMPACT

Statements of Heritage Impact (SHI) are the standard mechanism required by heritage agencies to enable them to determine if a proposed development is likely to have a detrimental affect on a heritage item, conservation area or heritage items in the vicinity.  They are normally required as part of a Development Application submission if one or more of these circumstances is relevant.

GBA Heritage can make its greatest contribution if we join the project team as early as possible to then inform and encourage the design team to avoid or mitigate potentially adverse impacts and explore alternative options to achieve overall project objectives.

Many heritage-listed houses and other buildings in Sydney’s suburbs are experiencing enormous modernisation and expansion pressures. GBA Heritage have developed an excellent working relationship with numerous architects to protect the essential architectural character of many such houses, as they are expanded and transformed in a sympathetic manner.

The formal preparation of a Statement of Heritage Impact for each project provides the opportunity for architect and heritage consultant to work in close consultation as the client’s needs are explored and incorporated into design solutions.  These houses have been given new leases of life that ensures they remain important components of the rich cultural heritage of Sydney.
